It has been a great day for Spaniards, with Carlos Alcaraz defending his Wimbledon title with a straight sets win over Djokovic, and Spain securing its fourth European Championship title. It has, however, also been a sad day for the Djokovic fans around the world.

It was, to tell the truth, disturbing to see the great Novak Djokovic lose in such a routine fashion on one of his best surfaces. It wasn't just that he lost in straight sets, even GOATs have bad days. It was that he seemed to have none of the answers against the Spaniard. He was, as he said, "half a step behind" Alcaraz in every aspect of his game.

2024 has been, by far the worst year of Djokovic’s career, as the Serb hasn’t won a single title this whole year. The Wimbledon final was his first final of the year, with the 37 year old far from his best form.

With the Olympics just around the corner, Djokovic will have his eyes set on Gold, one of the few honors that have eluded him in his highly impressive career. The Serb lost out on his chances at the gold medal in 2020 after losing to Zverev in the semifinals of the Olympics.
