Rafael Nadal has come out on top in his match against Martin Fucsovics to set up a long awaited meeting with Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard had cast doubt on whether he would be able to compete in the singles draw because of a thigh injury, but seemed in relatively good shape, winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

The two greats will be competing in their record 60th match, with the Serb narrowly leading the head-to-head 30-29. Their last match up was at the 2022 French Open which Nadal won in 4 sets.

Although Djokovic hasn’t had a great season so far, he seemed to be in great form on Saturday, completely dismantling Australia’s Matthew Ebden in just 54 minutes. Nadal, on the other hand seemed to be working pretty hard, narrowly escaping a break in the deciding set before taking the match.

Although Nadal has been hinting at retirement, his decision is not set in stone, but this may well be his last dance with one of his greatest rivals, Djokovic. When asked about this, the Spaniard said “who said that’s last dance?”
