Tennis legend, Rafael Nadal has announced that his participation in the Davis Cup will be his last ever tournament. The Spaniard has been struggling with injuries, and had hinted about retirement over the course of the year, but he has finally made it official.

He will be last playing against the Netherlands at the Davis Cup in Malaga from November 19 - 21st. The Davis Cup has always been a place of success for Rafael Nadal, having first won 20 years ago in Seville, making for a “full circle” moment of the Spaniard’s career.

The 22 Grand Slam titlist was part of what can only be considered the golden era of tennis, with amazing rivalries against both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Those 20 years of greatness looks to be almost over, with Roger Federer having retired in 2022, and Novak Djokovic seemingly cutting down on his tournament schedule.

Many greats from both in and outside the sport have reached out with touching tributes for the Spaniard. His greatest rivals and friends, have all showed us how much of an impact Nadal has made on their lives. Cristiano Ronaldo was quick to reach out, hailing his 'incredible' career and wishing him well in retirement.

"Rafa, what an incredible career you've had! Your dedication, passion and incredible talent have inspired millions around the world. It has been an honor to witness your journey and be able to call you a friend. Congratulations on an amazing career! Enjoy your retirement!"

Novak Djokovic posted this emotional and heartfelt tribute to his "greatest rival,"

Roger Federer:

“What a career, Rafa! I always hoped this day would never come. Thank you for the unforgettable memories and all your incredible achievements in the game we love. It’s been an absolute honor!”
