Jan-Lennard Struff downed Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals in Halle. The German served phenomenally on his home soil, dropping just 5 points behind his serve and facing zero break points.

Struff was coming off a hard-fought win against Luciano Darderi, an extremely close match in which the Italian saved 9 match points before bowing out. It would have been reasonable to assume that Struff would have been tired out after a 2-hour and 31-minute battle against a formidable opponent, but the German showed no signs of fatigue against Tsitsipas. He fired 22 winners, and just 5 unforced errors.

This is the 11th time the 34-year-old has played in the Halle Open, and just the first time he has made it to the final 8. The German recently won his first ATP title in Munich, becoming the 3rd oldest first-time titlist on the tour.

"I was very happy. Yesterday was a tough match" Struff said, "...I had a good connection with the ball straight away and came in very well. I was serving good playing aggressive style" he continued, "very, very pleased with the way I played."

Struff will go on to face Jannik Sinner, who sits atop the ATP Rankings at World No. 1. The Italian survived a very close match against Fabian Marozsán, the No. 1 Hungarian player.
