Novak Djokovic is set to represent Serbia in this years Paris Olympics as announced by the country's Olympics Committee.
There have been doubts surrounding 37 year old's participation after being forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal matchup against Casper Ruud at the French Open due to a meniscus. He underwent a successful knee surgery, and posted on social media that the "surgery went well," adding that he would be back on court "as soon as possible."
The Serb has called the Olympics his "priority" this season as he looks to pick up his first gold medal, one of the very few honors that have eluded him in his highly successful career.
Tennis at the Olympics will take place at Roland Garros, meaning that the players will have to readapt to the clay following the grass season. This will add an extra layer of difficulty to an already demanding task. However, Djokovic is yet to provide an update on whether he plans on participating in the grass season, with the goal being to extend his record 8 Wimbledon titles.
So long as he remains fit, Djokovic will be joined by two of his longest standing rivals, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray, with the latter of the two saying it would be "fitting" to retire at the Games. This may be the last time these three greats ever play the Olympics again, but no one will ever forget the impact that they had on the game.
